Chicago & Northwestern Railroad

  • Does anyone out there know when the last passenger service operated on the Chicago & Northwestern Freeport Branch (now Union Pacific Belvidere Branch)? Who operated the service last in this corridor and when?

  • From the information I have the last train to run the KD-Line was in 1937. Anyone interested in this Rail Road feel free to contact me. I hope to model the Rockford part of this line.

  • The last time I can say with confidence that a passenger service was run up this branch was sometime in 1997-1998 when a Metra train was chartered to the Illinois Railway Museum, I think by the 20th Century Railroad Club.

  • here's some questions regaurding the local suburban serive. most concerning the n. line. I was in Winnetka recently at the Hubbard Woods station and as anyone who lives or have lived there knows the tracks are below ground level and when you walk over them, your pretty close to the trains passing through. has anyone ever stood above the bridges when a train passes by and breathed in the smoke from the engines or as ever had the urge to jump on top the trains and ride them? i'm from Park Ridge witch is on the C&NW NW line and though i was too young to know that the rrd was called the C&NW, i rememebr the yellow & green trains and the diesels wich were loud. compared to the modern Metra engines. i used to watch them in Park Ridge and if i were emtremely close to the tracks, i would hold my ears when those old yellow engines went by.
