Where to see Coal Train Loading, Colorado

  • My son loves trains and would like see a coal train in the process of being loaded up. So I'm looking for a good place to watch a train being loaded - it wouldn't have to be coal, but that might be fun to watch. We live in the Denver, CO area.
    Thanks,
    BDH

  • Head west; Somerset ,CO. This can be reached from I-70 1st exit at Glenwood Springs. Take 82 south to Carbondale, 133 over McClure Pass (easy pass open year-round). Great scenery. Coal trains loading daily from several mines. Drive time from Carbondale about 1 hour.
  • Thanks for the tip!
