Could not believe the GM&O was not included in this poll. So its no surprise what my choice is.The road has a very rich history,and was one of the first to dieselize.Look at their new geeps when they first got them,their riding on traded in Alco trucks.Very frugal money management.
Running an old tired F3 with manual transition with my uncle as a kid was a thrill I will never forget.

I had a tough time choosing between NKP and C&O. Had to go with NKP,as it was my
first exposure to RR's. Sure do miss BN and Conrail ![^]

The Western Maryland or "Wild Mary". Nothing like a coal drag climbing out of Elkins with three Consolidations on the headend, two in the middle and three pushing. Except for fast freights climbing from***berland to Frostburg with a Potomac and Challenger on the headend and a Decapod pushing. Now that's big steam.,

I spent 32 yrs railroading, 6 yrs as a yard clerk,4 as a Control Opr, 8 yrs as a Dispatcher on the CNW, 6 yrs on the Soo ,Dispatching the River Subdivn,2 yrs on the SP in Denver,6 yrs on the UP in Omaha, and Spring Tx dispatching the Lafeyette Subdivn. I retired 3 yrs ago at 71. I miss those 3 "Fallen Flags" CNW, Soo SP.and I miss the "good rails" that

DL&W for me, Maroon & Gray were the 'ol high school colors and in early teens remember seeing the F's and Trainmasters run thru and lay over at Kingston PA yard; even remember US ARMY black Trainmasters laying over... should have used that Brownie camera, huh? The 'ol Lehigh Valley even terminated on the West Side at the Kingston Lumber Co (side by side trackage with DL&W) Across the Susquehanna River in the Wyoming Valley, the Delaware & Hudson livery lives on with the local GP-38s...

Conrail. My first exposure to mainline freight Railroading was watching a Conrail doublestack leaving Port Jervis New York after getting recrewed. It was what got me started in the hobby.

My fav is/was the Monon (Chicago Indianapolis & Louisville). It ran through my home town in southern Indiana, and was the only one in the area that had semaphore signals. There are still a few of them left, but CSX has changed most of them over to searchlight type.

I chose the PRR because I live near philadelphia, and i liked that th PRR had many unique designs for their equipment,and also the N5C caboose (my favorite caboose design)I also like the Lehigh Valley, N&W, and the Reading.
