Nice photos everyone!
Robby, that sucks about the trip. Hopefully the next one will be better. My worst experience railfanning was last year (I believe it was 12/29/08) in Dover. Just as I got set up and a train was about to back out of the yard to pick up passengers. An "employee" (I think she actually was, but I have no legit proof) of Transit told me that photography is "illegal." But it's not. So it's not like the entire day was a waste, but I spent time getting set up for nothing, except standing there and turning purple...
And now, one more from me. This is my final shot for the "Bridging the Gap" contest.Train to the Future:

DM&IR 211 is done. Blew the main generator last night. If the talk revolving around Proctor Yard is any indication, the final two, along with most of the current power in Proctor, might not be far behind.

Might do a little "mini-chase" of 877 on Thursday. I plan to catch it in Mount Arlington, and then again in Netcong. I'll be able to make it unless there is traffic on Route 80. If for some reason I won't make it to MA in time, I'll probably just skip ahead to Netcong. Not sure if I'll want still shots or video for this one. I guess it all depends on if I can get my dad's camera and how good the video on that is, cause the vid quality of the other camera sucks. Actually, it sucks alltogether...
Brent, nice catches on the WC and the Bandit. I already know what's coming next and I hate both you and Jordan for it, especially Jordan as usual!
I've seen some decent stuff since the IC&E chase, the good power being a IC GP40R at Homewood.
Hmmm, just realized a major flaw in my plan...With all the trackwork/roadwork/grade crossing reconstruction going on at Main Street, it would be extremely difficult (if not impossible) to be able to snap a pic, especially a good one (that place is a mess!!). I guess I'll just have to wait for the Santa Train in December...
But I'll still go ahead and catch it at Mount Arlington.
Ugh, Robby take Jordan down to Barr Yard to show him what SD40-2's are supposed to be doing, pulling mainline trains! I live by the BNSF, and besides the few resident SD40-2's that have been around here for months, there is nothing to look at. I would definately rather be shooting UP SD70M's and family than that BNSF orange..... That 6873 was a nice catch, though!
I made three trips to Chicago this year, and shot nothing but CSX and affiliates at Blue Island and Dolton. Next time you go on a foam in Illinois, Jordan, go down to the hood where good power can be found. My last time at Dolton (the 16th and 17th of October) I shot a Stack train with two spartan cab C40-8's, a local with CSXT 8395, one of two Stealth C40-8's (#7587) went across the diamonds and over to Yard Center, I shot Q643 with the CSXT 7524 leading, etc, etc. You wont regret going down and sitting at Dolton for a few hours, and if you like NS they slide right by on their way over to the IHB. But, thats just me.
Alec(Waiting on my CSX non-foamer jacket to arrive.....)

Hey I wouldn't mind going down and seeing some CSX SD40-2s. It seems like when ever you go down there you see some good power. Heck that last trip you caught the last CSX SD45-2! The one problem is the drive. Either I would have to drive in Chicago, or my dad, or I know he doesn't enjoy Chicago Driving. I think I'll settle with the ICE or DME. It’s pretty sweet to see a trio of SD40-2s going over jointed rail.
I'm debating what to do next year. I was thinking about doing the DME again, as they have some good traffic out there. I'd probably try to head farther west. Closer to Huron South Dakota. Although, I'll be in Nebraska for a Wedding, and I'll be able to hit the DME past Huron. Sadly I won't be able to chase any trains. The trains would probably dictate where I go. If I would have had more time on my last trip, I probably would have chased this train leaving Mankato in the morning.
I am also considering the Mason City Sub, but I've heard it is quite boring out that way.
Last, I would love to go on the ICE Chicago Sub again. I'll have to see train times by next year and see what I can work out.

Here's the video from today. Quality sucks, but it's the only thing I could get.
Mount Arlington Station, November 12, 2009
Maybe next time, the weather will be a little better, and I can use a camera with better quality...
And yes, I'm working on getting an actual video camera, but other things are more important right now...
Alec, I heard 662 payed New Brighton a visit a few days ago, one of two J-Balls currently active on the CN. Next time you are planning on going to Dolton shoot me a PM, cause you've been getting pretty darn lucky every time you've came down here and I wouldn't mind benefitting from that luck!
I should go back to the CSX again. They still have some neat stuff running around. I've been too busy shooting the DM&E/IC&E and their six-packs of SD40-2s!
Another rainy commute home...the Green Line at Science Park Station.
A week late, but better late than never.
The Mrs. and myself got up somewhat early, gassed up, and were on our way. Nothing doing on the Brainerd for the morning, which isn't too unusual these days. We arrived in Staples at about ten, and survey the various changes of my old stomping grounds a few years ago. Right away, I find that Staples has become a quiet zone. That caught me off guard a bit. Also of note was my old residence is gone in place of a new city hall building. On top of that, the Dower Lake fishing peer had been finished, and it looks great. Moving on, after twenty minutes or so, we decide to trek west to Aldrich and Verndale, hoping to see if anything is coming. Upon hitting Verndale, we see a headlight, and make a U-turn back to Aldrich. A Dash 9 and an ACE(didn't expect to see this on this train, of all places) lead an Intermodal east.

Back in Staples, after cruising out to the CLC campus, we spotted another Eastbound, this one with coal. Now, I wasn't going to shoot coal, since there's plenty of that to shoot on the Brainerd. However, after seeing the power, I decided to shoot it after all, as the two lead units were matching, new ES44ACs. Here it is as it cruises through the now silent Staples downtown crossings.

After that, nothing. The lights went green(aside from one of the eastbound lines, but after twenty minutes, nothing came of it), so we started the hour long drive back home.
I've seen some wild stuff on the EJ&E today as well as yesterday.
Yesterday: Weird catch #1, CN SD60F with two test cars. http://www.flickr.com/photos/24084206@N08/4098992752/
Weird catch #2, Welded Rail Train http://www.flickr.com/photos/24084206@N08/4098992774/
Today: Weird catch #3, RDC 1501 http://www.flickr.com/photos/24084206@N08/4100266209/
Weird stuff!
Ya, the 662 did make a swing by here. Of course, it came in at 7:30 at night and left at 1:30 in the morning, so I missed it....One of the larger blunders ever on my part (atleast with WC Transfer stuff). The kid that told you about it used to be a friend of mine, but we had a falling out and now he wont let me know about this stuff. Funny, because I would always let him know of neat stuff that has been coming in at New Brighton for the last 4 or 5 years. But, enough with my rant, just really dont like backstabbers.
Neat stuff Robby.
Alec(I wish I could be in Dolton right now.....)
Yeah, I wish I could be in Dolton right now! A business train ran today with a CN SD70M-2 and two IC business cars. I missed him because he was doing 10MPH over the 45MPH track speed when he hit the detector. That's THREE moves with passenger or ex-passenger equipment on them in two days on a line that hasn't seen passenger trains since practically the steam era. Oh well, I think the move with the SD60F leading outdoes that one. Joliet railfanning has been weird lately to say the least, but like I said in the previous post, most of the orange runs while I'm in school. I had to give up seeing a J to go to school today, and what do ya know, just my luck, I get there, the class is cancelled I go outside and hear the leslie horn in the distance, a tough miss there! Then I go out to see it come back and it blows by at high speed further down the road!
