Not really all that new, but I don't think I've posted this one ever.
As seagulls soar over beachgoers at Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme, CT, Amtrak Northeast Regional train 163 rockets southbound on the Northeast Corridor.
This one's new though...yet another shot of the MBTA! I have enough footage for another video - just need to find the time to convert, edit and upload!

In other news, I'm saving up for a good camera of my own, a Canon SX1 IS! Over 500mm of zoom, HD video, and the quality of an entry-level DSLR! There's a reason it's $600, but it's worth it...and I have much of the money saved up already.

Tyler, That MBTA shot is awesome. Just something about it is so sick.With that price for cameras, I'm fine with what I have. And if I'm lucky, maybe I'll be able to steal my dad's work camera every once in a while. That thing takes really nice pix.

As the weather cools, I am spending more time inside. Just yesterday we had to turn the heat on for the first time, it was 21F out there! Hopefully Indian summer rolls along soon...

Great composition Tyler! I don’t mean to insult you or to be over critical, but I think if you would have waited just another second and let the lead unit get into that clear area, it would have made the shot even better. Another thing, maybe if you got a little closer to the tracks, so you‘d get more train in the shot. Maybe for next time. Again I don’t mean to be critical or insulting, overall though it is a nice shot!

Also, I already went for the "close to the tracks" shot before, and decided to show more of the beach in the photo above. Think I could have got any closer to the tracks? I'm surprised this was so sharp at 90 mph! (This was another high-speed sequence, so I have more shots of the loco farther away)

You people are crazy. In school, we've been freezing and it was 50F. One day when it was around 40 they turned the heat on. That and the day when it snowed. In Jersey. In October. Again (we got 6 inches all at once last year)... How does this keep happenning??
So today I finally went to Mount Arlington and got my winning shot for the Trains Mag photo contest. I won't post the shot yet, but it'll come soon enough. I think it came out really well, probably my best ever.
Well we get a heck of a lot more than 6 inches per year. Actually we just got the first snowfall today. It snowed for a good 3 hours as it got cooler into the evening, then it cleared up.

The eastbound platform at Mount Arlington. You can see the headlight of the approaching train just to the left of the black and orange "End of Platform" sign.
A PL42AC leads train 877 from Hoboken into the station. This shot shows how good the quality of this camera is (compared to what I usually use) because it's so clear you can almost read the schedules! I really like the fall foilage; it adds a lot to this shot.
Train 877, with not one, not two, but three Metro-North Comet Vs, accelerates out of the station. I had to sprint down about eight flights of stairs and through the tunnel below the tracks to catch this shot! I was hoping I'd be just a few seconds earlier to get the loco, but I could only run so fast.
I have a few more up that I just didn't post, because they weren't that great, and a few more that I didn't even upload because they were so-so.
Alex, somehow I missed you post. Anyway...We get way more than six inches a year too. It was just that we got 6 inches on, like, somewhere around mid-October. It was such a mess because they weren't expecting this at all, so a 20 minute ride home from school took 3 hours!!
Normally I wouldn't double post, but...
Despite many troubles, I finally decided on what to send in for my official entries and mailed them in yesterday. Two of them were the first two shots I posted. I have two others, on of which I will post on Friday, and the second (my favorite), that I will post next week.
Also, had a really unusual catch today. In Netcong, I caught MoTown (Morristown) Line 880 departing with a CV cab leading (didn't catch the number), two CIIMs, and a Comet III (with PL42 4026 shoving)!!!!! It's rare to catch a CIII anywhere other than the NJCL, forget the Hoboken Division! This was definately a first.Finally, on a related note, I looks like they're FINALLY finishing up on the Main Street grade crossing project in Netcong. They redesigned the area for better drainage (flooding was awful...) and widened and shifted Main Street over. Traffic flow is much better, and hopefully the new drainage will prove itself tomorrow (it's supposed to pour )
