Trains in upper penninsula michigan

  • Hey, I'm going to the upper penninsula this summer and was just wondering what the train traffic is like up there or in Michigan farther north. Thanks.

  • like everywhere else not what it used to be. You should be able to possibly catch some pellet movement to Marquette and Escanaba. WC used to have traffic toward Sault St. Marie but with CN owningWC, GTW and IC that could all be moved onto the eastern routes. I sure didn't see many rail lines east of Escanaba the last time I was up there and that was several years ago now.
  • Action in the U.P. has been really slow, but at least the LS&I has something going with their big fleet of U30Cs that they purchased from the BN. Now thats something to see[:D]. Too bad there isn't more action going on up there. Its a good place to take an action photo shot with all that scenery.[;)]
  • I would like to suggest that you go to Michiganrailroads.com they have a fourm for upper michigan railroads you might be able to find out more from the forum
