I need help getting sound from my bachmann

I have a g scale bachmann and have confirmed that my sound tender is working by connecting the circuit and am getting sound out of it. However when i hook it to my locomotive it doesn't give me sound. Is there anything anyone might know what to do?[?][:o)]
