Amtrak rescues storm stranded people, Denver

  • This evening on CBS national news, they were reporting about all the people stranded by the big snow storm out in the rockies, and reported on people who were stuck there. Low and behold one part of the newscast interviewed a person who looked right into camera and said "i'm all set, I new Amtrak would be running" and they proceeded to show amtrak cars moving through the snow. Second part showed a couple rushing to board an Amtrk Westbound train after they somehow purchased the last two tickets available...Anyway the reason i post this here is that Amtrak could not get any better PR, or for that matter ALL railroads. I wonder if the Amtrak Gm ordered extra sections to bail out all the AIRLINE passangers ( lol ). I wonder if anyone in Washington DC saw or was impressed? (nah). It just shows how good a mode of transportation rail is, and i'm sure the crews out west have earned their paychecks the last few day...Tom

  • I was thinking that this snow storm should not stop passenger trains like it stops passenger jets. This is why we will need passenger trains for mass tranportation for a while. If someone can actually produce something better than passenger trains and passenger jets, then both will be outmoded. Passenger Trains are still needed.

  • Yup, a friend of mine in Nederland CO (near Boulder) was scheduled to fly to Europe yesterday thru Denver Intl Airport. He was got the airline to rebook him on a flight one day later from Salt Lake City, and he was able to get an Amtrak ticket heading west so will only be one day late.
