BNSF Racetrack La Grange Road

  • Was there July 11 between 8p-11p and noticed no whistles 4 the crossings. I realize there were many gates guarding the crossing and whistles wake the public up at knight but how far west does this "no whistle" policy exist and what R the hours of its operation??

  • I grew up along the EX CNW commuter line in Palatine, Ill and what I learned is that in the suburban territories laws have been passed that restrict grade crossing whistling, except in emergency situations, 24/7.
I imagine that is also the same rule on the ex bn racetrack. I have rode amtrak between Chicago and Denver many times, and I believe the whistling restrictions cover the entire commuter line to Aurora.
If You like hearing them great horns, show up during rush hours when Commuters are running around stopped trains and lowered gates. if you are interested in sound recordings of trains drop me a letter at 258 Mesquite st, Wickenburg Az 85309. I have several hundred tapes available. Keith Rieger.

  • I believe the first road crossing to get regular whistle warnings west of Union Station is McClure Road in Aurora, which is just east of Farnsworth Ave. and is right next to the BNSF Eola yard office...this is also the spot where all of us foamers meet to watch trains. JIm
