Genesis suck! Stick with the F40PH

  • F40PH's have already proven themselves. If you built new ones and added some newer components you would have a better locomotive instead of a brick with a cramped cab. Also Amtrak needs new passenger cars but they update instead.

  • But that would cost MORE money than buying the P42's.
    The cabs arent cramped either. The only way they would be miserable on hils is if the engineer doesnt know how to control them.....Who are these trainmen?

  • I know that some of you were talking about F40PH's being in a museum; I've been to the Transportation Museum in NC and they have one. I went there during thier "Rail Days" event, and I enjoyed myself. I walked into the cab of it, and it seemed pretty big. I had read online that it had some problems with it. They had their Southern E8 unit pulling the train around, along with thier Southern GP30 pulling the Caboose train( I sat in the N&W Caboose). I did sit in the cab of a Southern unit FP7A though. It was cool

  • O.K. here is somthing to think of while F40PHs are being throughen away small torest railroads run trains with alco switchers. I bet they would love some of the F40PHs that went to Larrys Truck and Electric.

    I am going to take an aspirin then lay down....reminds me off paulcytensa

    Sorry Max but I like the F40PH's 6 billion times better than the brick with a 45 degree angle sliced into it. Those units are so ugly they make me not want to ride a train. I wish GE could have done something with the design for goodness sakes.

    Ham: The F40PH's are worn out piece's of cr*p. They were, and still are worn out, beat up, and better off scrapped unless you want to tottally rebuild it. And then you're faced with finding part's. Which you're thinking, "there's plenty of them" No, theres not, the ones from the F40Ph's are worn out, so you'd be rebuilding a engine with the same worn out parts. Tourist RR's wanting F40PH's, some would yes, but most wouldnt as they know there worn out, most would rather take the relible ALCo, then a worn out F40PH.

    You show me an article or some manager thats says that those units are worn out. Metra in Chicago use only the F40ph's on there commuter trains. They have over 100. I have been going every March to Chicago and I don't see the genesis replaceing them. I would like to see some proof please that these units are worn out. Otherwise please don't make up things like this.

    You CAN'T build new F40s, the EPA regulations will not allow it, and if you rebuilt a 3000HP 645 to those regulations, it simply wouldn't be the same engine as the ones in the F40s, and may not be as reliable, and the 645 is 40 years old anyways, people want something newer like the 710.

    This is a topic about Amtrak, and their F40s are very worn out. Long distance Amtrak service is very different and much harsher than commuter service, and they have seen many more miles than them.

  • Sorry but if someone had said something about that then it would be different. But this WAS on the F40s themselves and nothing relating to amtrak except the brick on wheels. Which doesn't always relate to amtrak.
