Railroad videos

  • My modelling subject being Europe, I've found a great series put out by a British production company that covers modern operations in most European countries. Oddly enough, it's called 'European Railways.' Advertisements for it can be found in another English periodical called Today's Railways. I have a few other videos, including a cab ride on the (recently) old mainline between Frankfurt and Cologne(some of which is the section I model).
Remember, ordering from Europe may mean you have to have the means to play VHS/DVD in the appropiate format(PAL, DVD region).

  • I own about 6 or 7 railroad DVDs. I'd buy more but there really aren't any more available that cover the Eastern roads like B&O, Western Maryland, Chessie and CSX. I already own 2 B&O and 1 CSX DVD that I bought from Pentrex.

  • I am especialy interested in steam, both early & recent.
I only buy dvd, they are so much better than cruddy videos.
I am also esp interested in SP 4449, Sante FE 3951, & other survivg vintage steam locomotives. also included , of course TP 610, which along with 4449 helped pull the fredom train in 1976!
4449 had ben on static display for some 30 odd years when she was pulled out & revived for freedom train service!
one last note, don't forget Union Pacific which has an OUTSTANDING steam program which of course includes the only steam loco that has NEVER been deactivated!! I am ashamed to admit that at the second, the number escapes me, I think it is 840, but I am not sure. the one thing I do know is that she is definately numbered something very close to 840, & to wind up, DO NOT forget UP 3985 thoe sole survivr active big boy 3985 of course she is a 4-6640 giant! what a beauty!!

  • I would like to purchase videos or DVD's but can not get over the cost. $20 to $30 is a bit much for a VHS oor DVD. Cost of the the tape and or DVD is less than $2. mass reproduction cost is very minimal per tape. If the cost was lowered to<$12 I would purhcase many.

    just my 2 cents.

  • I have never purchased a video but have been tempted. What stops me is that they are generally expensive.

  • I enjoy the Great Model Railroads series but I pick and choose very carefully. Too much time on the couch takes away from work on the layout!!!
