New locos....

  • Out of the four new locos...which one would you choose??

  • The AC4500CW-CTE is really just an ES44AC. UP designates them as C45AC-CTE. All of GE's new locomotives are "'GEVO"'s.

    You forgot the SD70M-2 and ES40DC.
  • I personaly like the BNSF H2 ES44DC the best.

  • Having been a lifelong Chicagoan, I tend to be partial to switchers and transfer power. I would vote for the MPI/EMD GP15D & GP20D (not on the poll).
    The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

  • The SD70M is the only one in that group that looks like a locomotive!
    I prefer the standard cab SD70 owned by the IC[:)]!

  • It's close between SD70ACe and SD70M-2, but Ithink ACe wins my heart (To the extent it can) with it's low speed lugging power.
    They can't hold a candle to the SD40s, though.

  • Had to go with the SD70 ace... Love the looks of new EMDs.

    I also like GEVOS, in the new BNSF scheme.

    Lets face it, diesels rock![:P]

  • Given that I am prejudiced,i'd order a set of ES45DCs. If no cries emitted from above me, i'd spend the extra million a unit on an ES45AC fleet. Electro-Motive is in flux and may change in a way that the nominally conservative rail industry often finds problematic. How? Well, by going to how the rest of the world builds locomotives.Not as an off the shelf take it or leave it propisition, as it now is , but a choose your desired engine,( GEVO or EMD 710 or other) transmission, (AC or DC, from EMD,GE,Siemens,or ABB..)and where you want it built.( in your own shop, in London,ON;Erie,PA; Boise,ID or Mexico) I do not know all the options available, but this is intended to show that the builders will be facing a VERY different environment,perhaps sooner than both customers and builders would like. But that's change for you,like it or not.

  • HAHAHA, I dont like any of those locomotives!..I think that railroading on the BNSF/UP is begining to be quite boring, considering all I hardly see is wide cab EMD/GEs on coal, frieght, and stack trains...i get excited to see an SD40-2
  • If you ride in these things like I do ,the SD-40-2 , IS nostalgic,but like taking a road trip in a 1978 plymouth....They are loud ,they rattle and produce little power...The new dash 9 -44 AC units on the BNSF ( # 7700- ? ) are smooth & quiet inside,have a GREAT ride and really pull their guts out....I love getting a trip with a 7700 series on the point...

    I like that idea too...we need a covered wagon or two out there....by the way,whats with the trolley photo....You know what they say about dudes that like musicals and trollies..............
