  • I liked the Alco PA -PB units classiest single engine passenger power ever built.
  • There are quite a few ALCOs still running on shortlines and even medium size railroads. The Arkansas & Missouri is all ALCo. ALCo quit building locomotivesover 35 years ago!.I don't know of any GEs that old still around, except for some 70 tonners on shortlines and some industrial size units. ALCo RULES[:p][:p][:p]!
Ride Amtrak. Cats Rule, Dogs Drool.
  • I like all of the EMD's because of their Power and the sound they produce. But one my favorites are the SD40-2 & the SD70MAC.
    BNSFrailfan.
  • I like GE exhaust sound. I preferred the GE’s but also like the EMD's. SD40-2 and SD50's. I think they were the work horses.
  • Chose EMD since I prefer their models up to the 60 series and GE's Dash 8s. I prefer GE's from the Dash 8's to now. That makes it EMD 66% and GE 34%.
  • There are more older EMD's on the road than GE's. This is the sign of quality.

Yes the Century series were very good locos.

    I also like the RS3

    RSD15

    PA

and many more Alco locos. [:D]
  • Loved old Alcos. They smoked a lot and they made that unique sound .."pladda - pladda - pladda - pladda". Really liked the rounded lines of the S and RS units ...sorta like an old 1950s refrigerator

Number one vote goes to F-M though. MILW ran an old H-10-44 in Council Blufffs in my early railfan years of the 60s. We were all heartbroken when they repalced it with some late model SW thing. [censored]To make it worse the new EMD even had an electronic "Bell" which rhymes with H*** which is what it sounded like. Watching the Milwaukee was never the same after that!

  • The bulldogs F7 and the Es
  • GE Mainly because I lived within walking distance of the test track in Erie, Pa. What a thrill growing up and watching all the new models being tested.
