Hello People,

My name is Gary Farmer and I am the author of this humble effort at telling the story of the Wreck of the Sunset Limited in 1993.

I have read some of your responses, and I can see that there are a number of unanswered questions.

I will try to answer as best I can your questions, but to be frank, some of the allusions to the Ricky Gates affair left me sad and hurt.

NO DRUGS, NO OPERATING RULES FAILURES (by either party), just a very sad and amazing set of circumstances leading to a tragic loss of life.

I will monitor this forum and try to set the record straight.

I find it really sad myself that people can be so cruel to always assume the worst of a bad situation. I know for a fact that this tragic accident completely destoyed peoples lives not to mention the families that lost their loved ones. Im so grateful to be able to say that a precious friend of mine survived in one sense but in another he died along with the others and he will carry this nightmare with him till the day he leaves this world. I thank God everyday that he was a survivor but then it breaks my heart that he has not been the same since then because this was a strong minded and loving and caring man that now has to carry this with him for the rest of his life. He has come a long way since 1993 but never completely healed and its now 15 years later and he is still here to tell his story. I only wish that I could take the pain away but we can not question the work of our good Lord because I truly believe that things happen for a reason and that people should not always assume that when things like this happen that it was due to drugs or ect... before you comment your should read up on things more carefully and get the real story and pray for the people and families that has to live with their losses everyday or the fact that when they close thier eyes that night is all they see. May God Bless you my friend and I have no questions but God has our answers and I pray all the time that you find yours. You was spared for a reason and no matter how you think or feel sometimes you are loved dearly by many and to hear your story is remarkable. Stay strong my friend and take care.....   LB

many thanks for your support and your kind words. I feel that I know you from some crew base in my past. If this is true, I would love to here from you again, as it has been a long time since I have heard from my friends in California and New Orleans. I am currently living in Long, Beach Mississippi, 228-697-4055, [e-mail], and would like to here from any of the wonderful people that I used to run with in the Coast Starlight, SanJuaqins, and the Reno Trains out of Oakland. Just writing this letter, has brought back a flood of memories of my good friends out west.
