Trains.com Reader Poll - February 2004

  • Here in Sunny Australia I use a broad band connection to surf the 'net. I don't think I could go back to a modem now that I have experienced broad band.

Broad band really comes into it's own for multimedia such as video.

    Cheers,
Dan (the South Australian Railway man!)

Modeling the railways of South Australia in HO scale!

South Australian Railways and the Commonwealth Railways.

  • I use DSL.
  • Like model railroading, two rail lines are better than one, and two phone lines are superb for my dial up/ FAX/ Emergencies etc. I find the website www.trains.com loads fast. As I age ,
[ senior ] I really would urge the WEBMASTER of TRAINS. COM to enlarge the photos on the opening pages or stories. Even the stories on visiting members layouts, the click to open and enlarge photos, these photos are not large enough.
Has there been other polls about the website, layout, presentation and photos.
  • Hi All,
I am using broadband cable. It is around $ 45.00 a month and very fast. We used to have 56k dial up. It was frustrating to keep getting kicked off , or no response at all. The money for broadband cable is cheap when I think of how much faster it is for the kids to use for school reports, games. When you go to download pictures it is so much faster that it is almost unbelievable.
  • I've had Roadrunnner at the house for almost four years, and have been virtually trouble-free. The city just installed Roadrunner at our station as well, and my volunteer service has wireless DSL at the station, so no more dial-up for me!

  • Cable DSL, quicker than the computer I have. Can't beat it!
  • I have 56K dialup at home, but use broadband at work. THE DIFFERANCE IS AMAZING ! I would like to have a faster service at home, but I just can't justify the cost. The one thing that I don't like is that I can't get live action from the webcams-WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
  • DSL fast link. from Swisscom. One of the best connections to the internet in Switzerland
  • I use high speed internet cable COMCAST
  • Well everyone is blowing their horn on what they have, and how much it cost them.
We all see much the same thing. I started out on a 486 with a connect of 9800.
Wow! have we come a long way. Oh yea the cost was $30.00 a month back then.
Who knows what awaits us in the future.
I pay less with DSL now.
I just had to get my two cents worth in.

  • this is railroadc27 just saying i use the local library and just feel unless you need a
computer for work ,( website on line business) etc. why not use the local library.
i know a lot of us would like to see our taxes be put towards railroads in general other
than just blowing some highway somewhere but you can't have it all right
so save your self some money use your local library ...
