  • looks like I was 1st to vote for Alaska I like them because nobody ever heres about Alaska like derails mergers & so many problems on there line they still have ther own pass service along with VIA
  • Uhhh....did you say that White Pass and Yukon connects to Alaska Railroad? Well its not so. Alaska Railroad owns 611 miles of track not connected to any other track system. It does operate passenger trains, but mostly for tourists.

  • I'm confused - why are we comparing Canadian Railroads to the Alaska?

Considering that my part of Canada looks more like Maine than like Alaska...
B-Dubya -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Inside every GE is an Alco trying to get out...apparently, through the exhaust stack!

Not at all. I rather like New England, based on my limited experience of it.

I was just wondering what the point of this comparison is. My guess is that the poster doesn't realize that most of Canada bears no resemblance to Alaska whatsoever (aside from the tiny piece of it that borders Alaska), and the Canadian rail network doesn't connect to the Alaska Railroad.

I thought I'd do my bit to clear up that misconception. How's this for openers - 90% of the population of Canada lives within 100 miles of the US border. Another neat piece of geographic trivia - Windsor, Ontario, is about a mile due south of Detroit, Michigan. I live in Nova Scotia, at latitude 46 North (3 degrees south of most of the border), and further from Alaska than most of the continental US is, except for perhaps the Florida Panhandle.

    So...why compare Canada to Alaska?
