We had an opportunity to do create a custom detailed interior for a 3 Stall Heljan Roundhouse. After installing custom fitted interior piping, brick walls, lighting, inspection pits and shop equipment fitted with fiber optics to give the machines a realistic look we felt the overall look was appealing for the era.
Installation of the fiber optics took a little time. However, with a sharp drill bit and a little mustering the fiber optic cables were passed through the machines, through the diorama base and seated against two various 12V lighting sources. The inspection pits are our new locomotive inspection and diagnostic pits which allow for programing, testing or maintenance of locomotives in a stationary position. These pits can accommodate a variety of test rollers (i.e. Bachmann). You can see these pits in action at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuxJezWeCCo&feature=g-upl
A total of 218 pieces were put together to give this diorama the look it needed to resemble a bustling shop.
