Need parts for an HO scale "GENOA"

Hey All,

This is my first time at a model train forum and thought that this would be the first place to get help.

Anyhow, I just found an old HO train of mine.

A Rivarossi Engine #12 Virgina & Truckee "Genoa"

Its a beautiful little train that i got about 15 years ago.

It's missing a couple of parts that i need help with.

I don't know what the parts are called.. But she needs thoes little Rubber traction bands for the engine wheels.. they have since deteriorated and came off. shes a 4-4-0

Next shes in need of the driveshaft as well.

Would anyone know where i can get these parts for this train?? and what the actual name of these are??

Ive tried searching for "tread wheel bands" "Ho train tender driveshaft" and have all but come up short.

I have one of those Genoa engines, and in my opinion it would cost more to repair than its initial cost. Mine just sites on a display shelf. The biggest problem with it is the wheel flanges -- they are European sized, deep flanges, that require European manufactured turnouts and crossovers such as Peco. If you try to run this engine through an Atlas turnout or crossover, the deep flanges cause the wheels to get lifted off the rail and the engine stalls. Stewart makes replacement traction tires in various sizes for both steam and diesel locomotives. I know two other local modelers who also need a replacement drive shaft, and have been unable to locate one. I don't know if all of these locomotives are exactly the same, but mine was made by Rivarossi, and parts are extremely difficult to find. Your best chance might be to start haunting flea markets to see if you can find one for sale that can be cannibalized for parts.

The Stewart that sells the tires is a Wisconsin based company not Stewart models in Pa. Also try E bay. Junkers can be had pretty cheaply.

International Hobby Corporation has these on sale for $39.95. As I remember IHC took over some (all?) of Rivarossi's line some time back. Don't know if they stock parts or not. This is a pretty hefty sale so they might be terminating them - don't know the flange size.

I believe that the driveshaft is the same for all four of the Pocher/Rivarossi V&T old timers - the Genoa, Reno, Inyo and Bowker. I currently share the driveshaft between the Genoa and the Bowker. These old engine do have larger flanges and also do not have the low end performance of the older engines, but they are still fun to run.

Yeeeeaaaarrs ago, I once made a driveshaft for my Genoa.(which was my first model steam engine btw.Your pix brought back memories.)

I used a couple of 2-56 (I think) nuts simply threaded onto the ends of a peice of round toothpick. anyway It shouldn't be hard to determine and find the right size nut at your LHS.You'll want to superglue 'em once you get the length of the tooth pick right. Or you could get elaborate and use a peice of 1/16 brass tube and solder the nuts on...Dan
