Preformed molded layouts
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, December 13, 2003 4:06 PM
Has anyone used the hard shell (styrene) preformed molded layouts? I notice that "Terrain for Trains" has some for HO and N scales.

The HO one "Timber Ridge" comes in 4 sections and are offered painted or unpainted. You get the hills etc molded in place. You lay the track and install the bridges and you are off to a good start. I know it can be thought of as a lazy way to start a new layout but for some people time can be short. and this will get you at least started on the right "track" :-)

For some people, building the benchwork is fun. For those who don't really enjoy it, the premoulded layouts are fine.

It's kinda funny--I had one of these 25+ years ago. Made of the white styrofoam. Simple design, came in very garish color--think of a 4x6 version of one of those pre-made plastic tunnels you can plop onto a loop of track.

Then the concept disappeared.

Now, it's back!
