You could do it with a hybridized version...mix and match, Bob.  Personally, I will never revert to sectional if I can help it, but if it is desirable for you, rely on the CAD plan and build what you want, but keep a couple of sections of flex as closers.  Often folks find that things don't go according to plan, so you will welcome a small section of flex that allows you to make ends meet.

It isn't either/or...it can be both.  For me, just flex.  So much more variation allowed if you want to deviate because of a later brilliant idea.

Thanks for the reply. I agree  with your suggestions. To be honest I was leaning towards flex track but wan't sure if I would run into any problems when it came time to do some cutting and getting everything to line up,but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Again thanks. Bob

I would recommend using flextrack because of the fact that you may not be able to perfectly match the CAD drawing and will need to move around some. Sectional track doesnt allow this as much. As for the Peco short turnouts, why not? If I remember right, you are wanting a switching layout?

Track and switch question
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, June 2, 2007 11:10 AM

After posting my track plan last weekend and reading all the replies and suggestions,a couple of questions came to mind.

I
used xtrakcad to design it and was wondering if I should stick with
sectional track when construction starts or would I be better off using
flex track?

All the switches in the plan are #4's. Would I gain anything if I were to use Peco short turnouts?

I know they are a little costly but if I could gain some spaced the extra cost may be worth it.

As always all ideas are welcome. BobWhistling [:-^]
