A joke? No way - we're talking serious stuff here. Although I do find the number of shoes owned by my wife to be to be a little disturbing. How can you have so many shoes? They can't even be kitbashed (although the dog did try once).

after having acquired more than I need over these past many years I plan to have an inventory reduction sale in 05. Then I can start over. For any of u reading this in the Nanaimo BC area, look for the advert in the local rag.

My wife is very understanding--as long as I don't say anything about her cookbooks.

My wife supports my love of trains. The good thing about it, I spend more time at home and work on my hobby. The bad thing about it is trying to explain to her that a $30-60 dollar atlas, kato, lifelife proto2000 is a good deal! What is especially hard to explain is when she sees this locomotive in N-Scale and is less than 5 inches in length! As far as having enough? Not even close! You will always want something else.

Larry,

Do me a favor? Look under your layout. I've bought about a dozen pin vises over the years and can't find a one. Might they be at your place?

I never have enough train "Stuff". I've been doing train layouts for about 45 years & still have some of the original stuff from the early 60's. I'm like some of you other modelers,
I weed out some of my stuff about every other year. I just spent $60.00 this past weekend at a train show & I probably should have not, but I can't pass up a good buy
& I look at it this way "I can always find a place to put it on my layout".
I have stuff hid all over the place under the train tables & sometimes I find "stuff" that I don't remember buying & find the same stuff again someplace else. It's like buying a set of files & U can't find them, so you go buy another set. Then when you're looking for something else you find them. Now you've got 2 sets & hope U don't lose both again.[^][:D][:I][}:)][8)][:P]
In other words "YOU Can't Have 2 much train stuff"

I used to hear it entirely too often when we were first married. Now after 2 girls and 30+ years she's found out I stay home in the winter and take No.2 daughter with me when I go looking for train stuff. But every once in a while she'll ask me what I'm doing with all that stuff because "you never go down to the basement to do anything". What I do are things she doesn't see because she only walks by to do the laundry. Archie
Ain't it great!!!

Well, I haven't got a significant other. But even with my family, I haven't heard it.

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Went and ordered a used brass 2-8-8-4 from a dealer in Maryland. Significant Other bought a Maine Coon kitten. We compared prices, locomotive vs. cat. Significant Other won. No more arguments about having too much train stuff. Maine Coon now weighs about 20+pounds. Helps me make up trains in the yard. Steals Cabeese. I'm thinking of ordering another 2-8-8-4 from the brass dealer in Maryland. Signifcant Other is thinking about getting another Maine Coon kitten to keep Spooky company. Where will it end? A model railroad run by cats, of course.

I designed my layout to be around the wall
but slowly I have expanded and now her car is in the driveway
"its never enough is it"
is what she said
better to have me home with my trains than out with a bunch of floozies

Like in a comic in the local paper today - Arlo and Janice - She's asking him what he wants for Christmas, and he replies that he doesn't need anything, he has everything he wants. The in the next panel he's thinking "Then why am I not happy?".

Must have more toys! [:D]

Having the wife involved in the hobby makes it easier to explain the need for more engines and cars. Alot of the things I buy have been at her suggestion.

I buy the stuff, hide the receipt, then mark $29.95 on the box.Not a bad price for a $400 engine.I also keep buying more because the products keep improving

Enough? All I can think about is the quote from John Paul Jones "I have not yet begun to get enough!"

Being in the Northeast, people are virtually scared off by my hobby. At least that's what I've noticed more than anything else. There are those few who do show interest in it.

I'm very blessed. Louise thinks the railroad is very cool. It helps that I'm modeling the town she grew up in, and that I'm starting to build scenery. The thought that I might actually have gotten close to enough has crossed my mind once or twice, but then somebody brings out something new and better that fits my time period and choice of railroads. I quickly realize that I was mistaken.
Have Fun,
Tom Watkins

Its gotten to the point that I'm down to a list of specific items to be on the lookout for.
As far as enough is concerned, its like that one line in the song that says" too much is never enough"![swg]

The word enough ,not in my vocabulary.Although the wife tends to try and shed light on the meaning for me many times in the past and will probably continue to do so in the future. I have sucessfully dodged the interpatation and forcefully as I am allowed continue to respond with my version ,not enough, and the old stand by ,need more.

They're not against that, it's just that they think that spending $60 on a steam locomotive or $15 in trees is an absolute outrage. [V]
I guess they won't like it when I begin collecting prewar Lionel trains!

Yeah, really. Have you thought about an escape route yet, in case Mom goes postal? LOL--just kidding. I'm hoping your folks will come around and see the fun you're having with a worthwhile hobby and simply embrace it. Best of luck!

NEVER! but, I some times thin out the herd (fleet?).
Then with the money from sales and a few more added to keep them company
trundle on down to The Hobby Stop here in Orem and engege in Capital Improvements to the railroad.
After a herd thinning I actually heard my wife say, "the brass ones got a bunch more than you paid for them, just get those, no more of the plastic ones!" After I was revived I promised to try to do that the next buy. (I prefer PLASTIC, I dont have to hold a pistol to the head of the kid's dog every time one asks to handle the trains).
