I see the six pack on Walthers is labelled "Forgotten Classics". Maybe it should be "Best Forgotten Classics". The Ford Pinto was the best thing that could have happened for Toyota!

Currently the Malibu "Reel Rides" are available only at select Wal-Mart Supercenters in the U.S. (the film licensing covers only the U.S., so I don't believe they can legally be sold in Canada).
Motormax is branching out (Yay!). Wal-Mart's pricing pressures were hurting RBI's earnings (RBI is Motormax's parent company) and the hobby channel gives them more pricing flexibility. By the way, I hope everyone notes the difference in price for the Fresh Cherries cars at Wal-Mart vs. Walthers. It's about the same difference as the difference in price between the Malibu International cars and the Model Power cars. The Model Power exclusives are slightly higher because there aren't any Wal-Mart sales for them.
There are more models of vehicles from the 1960s and 1970s in the works.

I'm trying to figure that one out too. Mine mostly gets the 1/64 stuff in first. It just sits there. When they do get the 1/87 ones in, they sell out in a week and they don't re-order. I asked the woman I know in the toy dept. and she had no idea.
For me-WM, 3 miles away. LHS, 73 miles away. I wish it was closer.

Hi chutton01 - I should have posted that price as just plain "MSRP of 4.50" or "listed on Walthers website as 4.50".....some shops will charge 4.50 (about the same MSRP as those Model Power cars) and some may charge more than 4.50, and of course some may discount them for less than 4.50...I have to be careful how I mention the price of anything to avoid the appearance of advertising. And sometimes my posts come out awkward because of that.
Walthers just got these in on Tuesday, May 22nd, so most shops would not have them available yet.
Apparently the Malibu movie cars were only supposed to be available at SuperCenters, not sure about the Fresh Cherries....at any rate, the SuperCenter a mile down the road from my store has had neither, so I don't know how they decide which WM gets what.

Sure WM sells 'em for 2.47 (I think) but look at the convenience of being able to get them straight from your LHS? No running around searching, no standing in lines for a half hour...
I'm thankful that Walthers picked up the line...a lot of my customers either don't shop at Wal-Mart or can't find them in their Wal-Mart...even at 4.50, they are still a good deal.

A 1948 cutoff date was established for Classic cars. These rules remained basically unchanged until 1968, when a new rule was introduced, which allowed expansion by one year every other year. Then, the July-August, 1974 issue of ANTIQUE AUTOMOBILE announced the inclusion of vehicles 25 years old and older into the classifications, effective February 1, 1975. This rule continues in effect today.
There was also a previous release of 1970s vans (with 'ugly' supergraphics that modelers would remove to produce nice looking models of 1970s vans), and sporadic releases here and there (Atlas is supposed to release a late 1970s Ford Fairmont), but considering how many different vehicles were actually produced during the 1970s, the available HO models today are just a tiny drop in the bucket...

Interestingly enough, Walthers has started carrying the fresh cherries, albiet at a premium price ($4.50 apiece) - however, since the two Wal*Mart around my area do not seem to carry these, I may have no choice (I'd like a few of the 2 '80s vehicles, the Escort & Tempo), since by the time you add shipping etc the eBay cost would probably be higher.
I have heard that only the Wal*Mart Supercenters carry these particular models (HO scale Cherries, Malibus, etc) - anyone know if that's true (the 2 Wal*Marts near me are NOT supercenters)?
A few months ago as you may remember, A friend brought me a large box of strene. Yesterday,He shows up with a Wally World sack containing 11 1970 era viehicles, I can't get them here.
