attaching couplers to MDC's 50' pullman cars?
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, December 10, 2003 10:02 PM
i want to attach couplers to some of MDC's 50' overland passenger cars and 50' pullman cars, but i do not wantg to use the truck mounted couplers. i want to attach kadee couplers to the underframe of each car. if i attach kadee couplers to the underframes how far out should i extend the coupler pockets? i want to put them on the underframes but i do not want the cars to be so close to each other when coupled as to rub agaisnt each other. also what number of coupler is best for MDC's 50 passenger cars?

If you just put #5s in their boxes so that they are flush with the end of the car (with the little tab on the top of the box on the endbeam of the car) then it should be alright. I have 60cm radius curves and have no problems with my cars but you do need to shim the coupler boxes to the right height.

Did you find you have to add a lot of extrat weight to get them to track properly?

There was an excellent article a couple of months back in MR on fine tuning passenger equipment. I have set it aside to do all my passenger cars. It would be worth your while to order a reprint of the article.

Good luck...Ken
