Safety Valve,
Thanks for the information. Worked like a charm. The difficulty with the wire is that there is a plug arrangement for quick changing the bulb. The leads for the light bulb have single-pin plugs which mate with a two pin female plug on the light leads that run along the top of the chassis. The female part of the plug assembly resists going through the slot in the bottom of the smoke box.
Now, I have to figure a way around the plugs as I don't want to wait for a replacement, if I can get one, from BLI.
Again, thanks for the help.

Let me think about this a moment.
YOu should be able to simply pry off the smoke box door to get to the light bulb itself.
The Boiler comes off when you have removed the one screw between the cylinders on the bottom. BE SURE TO STAY AWAY from the sets of screws anywhere near the Driving wheels as they form a plate under which very delicate parts make the whole thing work.
Also leave the screws holding the pilot and trailer trucks alone.
Finally towards the back of the cab under the fireman and Engineer (OR nearly so) you will find two screws and they come out just so.
I have not figured out how to clear the boiler front completely off the chassis because of a wire in there.
I have a BLI H-9D, 2-8-2 Mikado locomotive that has operated flawlessly for more than three years. A few days ago the headlight quit working. I suspect a burned out bulb, as there is a very small incandescent bulb in the headlight housing.
I have several small bulbs that will work, but I can't figure out how to get the loco apart for access to the headlight wiring. If I ever had a manual for it, I can't find it. A quick check with the BLI website didn't help either.
Can anyone out there help.
Thanks in advance.
