Model mechanical interlockings
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, December 9, 2003 9:19 PM
After reading the article on modeling mechanical interlockings, I was wondering what are the proper names of the parts that make up an "Armstrong " lever mechanism INSIDE the tower. I have 2 of these levers that I have refurbished and mounted in my railfan tower, CP KOREN, located in my backyard overlooking the Indiana Harbor Belt railroad at milepost 31.3. Pictures of and from the Tower may be viewed at http://photos.yahoo.com/KPKOREN
Thanks for any help.

I note your photos are the 2nd. story gearing.
INTERLOCKING mech. was on 1st. floor. Names applied refered to Keys and Locks, as they DID lock.
I know the machine included "dogs" and I think "Tumblers". The machine looked like a lattice w/ pins in Hz bars and slots in Vt. members. (latter connected to the 2nd. floor levers)
I would imagine your portrayed parts would have practical names like "grip" and "arc" or "slide"
Check w/ Historical Scocieties. I know Inland Empire Railway Historical Soc. has an old machine from a tower, but I don't know if they have a website.
Check the Magizine Index. I rember in early '60s MR ran a pair of articles on building a WORKING model for "Mineral Point & Northern".

The articles appeared in the Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, and Jun editions of MR in 1961. Just finished looking at these after borrowing the mags from the owner of my LHS. I'd been meaning to track these down for a long time, and finally got around to it. That's why MR just printed the new article! [;)]

I'm turning green with envy. That photo album is fantastic, not to mention the content. I could really use some instruction in that department.
