PCM/BLI have had some problems with monies and this is a way to lessen the costs.

Some early reviews have said the sound was good.   Almost all of the reviews of sound in general are not objective except to say it sounds OK.  Most of the time, the whistles, horns and other sounds are not correct for the exact protype and some have been really bad.  MR and other reviewers usually go easy on the reviews since they get paid by advertising money from people they are reviewing.

My thought is to wait and listen to one before I buy.

Yes, BLI got out of the deal with QSI.  Something about being too restrictive for them or something.

As far as I know the sounds are from sound-only decoders of their own design.  They skiped out on motor/light decoders because they wanted to keep the Blue Line cheap. Any decoder with an 8-pin (i believe) NMRA plug is a drop-in replacement for the DC shorting plug.

As far as sound quality - it's supposed to be very good.  Maybe not as good as the companies who have been in the sound business for a while, but it's up there...
