Which HO switcher should I buy

Looking for a switch engine, steam or diesel. Any recommendations? Either CP or CN (Canadian) lines would be nice.

Thanks,

Hiya Chris

It depends one factor.
How much can you spend?
I the sky is the limit, Kato, Atlas or Proto
If you have a budget, Athearn makes good locomotives for the Loonie!
I have 25 of them now, not one problem with them.

Just my 2 cents

Gordon

Brought to you by the letters C.P.R. as well as D&H!

You might like to see if you can find an MDC 0-6-0 kit. It's simple as locomotive kits go, you can detail it to match a favored prototype. If you haven't experienced this part of the hobby, it's a good and relatively inexpensive taste.

Life-Like Proto 2000 offers a 0-8-0 in both CP and CN as well as the 0-6-0 in CN paint. Though these are not exact models of Canadian locomotives, they are very close and will satisfy all but the rivet counters. I have one of each and they run very well. Your local hobby shop should have them in stock, or the next time you hop over to the mainland, stop by Central Hobbies ( www.central-hobbies.com ), they also carry a supply. As for locos of the diesel persuasion, Proto 2000 has a SW1500 and a S1. The 1500 is available in CP, CN, THB, and BC Hydro. and the S1 comes in either CN or CP.

Hope this Helps

For CN, the Atlas S-2 is a good option, comes in floppy noodle, 1950's and 1940's livery.

Life-like has some good Proto2000 models as well.

much the same goes for CP, but only in newer (1950's and on) livery.

I use a Life Like Proto 0-6-0 for my steam and a Athearn Cow and Calf for the desiel switching. The cow and calf are over 10 years old now and no problems.

I've got a Bachman 0-6-0. Gets the job done, but would recomond a better manufacturer.
