When I had let my subscription to railimages lapse, my allowable data storage dropped to what is provided free to registered non-paying members.  So, until about two months ago, I had to keep culling old images and importing new ones to stay within the storage capacity alloted to me.  I now am paid up, but in the meantime have long since deleted that image.  I'll find it, reload it, and repost it with some editing if you can be patient.  If it gets a new moniker from railimages, it won't appear in all the subsequent posts and quotes because I will not have made all those revisions.  We'll see what happens.

As usual.....no pix from me.

Selector; none of your photos are working for me. When I right-click and select "open in new tab" is says: 404 not found. Some other posters' photos aren't working for me either...Black Eye [B)]

Great photos everyone! Thumbs Up [tup]

Impressive! That layout looks like a lot of fun to operate on.

We had an open house at the club Saturday 5-5.  I got creative, and ended up with a 141-car train.  Here is the head end - 2 RS32s and 2 GP38-2s.

The layout measures 18 feet by 44 feet.   Going under the city.

Around the side.

Around the next corner.

And finally, the end.

Our layout has hills and turns, making such a long train interesting to say the least.  Should have taken pictures while it was going uphill.  There was an empty gon about 20-30 cars deep. It was lifting off the rail a bit, almost stringlining, but stayed on.

Tom,

I admire the unique cloud formations, and the naturalness of the overall look of the sky. I am looking forward to seeing your progress. Thumbs Up [tup]

 Great pics everyone.

Spacemouse - I can't think of anything I specifically need, thankyou. Not in the solitary dog price range, anyway Smile [:)]  I'll definitely buy one of the Dapol passenger kits when finances improve and set aside the dog for you. I'll pm you or email you when I have it, to arrrange mailing. No problem at all.

Greetings from a far-away land.  So glad I get broad band access to this forum, so I can vicariously enjoy the work presented here while I'm away.  So much good stuff to see.

Tom Bryant_MR the backdrop is great - just what I want to do on my own pike when I get home from this extended trip.  And Tomkat - I really like the detail. My own layout is 90% done, except for the details, which are another 100% - go figure.  Lastly, Selector, you've either been holding out on us, or getting very active with the camera - great shots.  Lots of other great stuff - too much to mention.

Just wanted to send kudos to everyone that contributed... not a whole lot of MR in ShangHai so the the WPF forum is great for me. Cheers.

Thanks Mark and Spacemouse.  The dog is OO scale, made by Dapol [as are all those figures] but should work well as a wolf .  It's included in the Dapol kit of passengers #DA CO8  I THINK!!!- you'd have to buy the whole lot - about 24 figures from memory.

Failing that, if you really want a dog and have any problems locating one let me know - my local store might still have some kits. I could purchase the kit and mail a dog to you. That would save you buying the whole kit just for the dog. I need more pedestrians and passengers anyway.

Here he is as a hungry fox about to raid the bins.

Thanks for the kind offer, Mike.

I've never heard of Dapol. I'm still looking for a Dog, but I've not seen a GErman Shepherd except for with a leash.

Maybe we couold trade. Do you need something from the states?

Tom, WCfan,

Thanks for the compliments, very much appreciated! I'm no Bob Ross, but I try to use his techniques. I have yet to try flatland scenery, or water...

Selector, GREAT photos! Wow! I love the one facing the tunnel entrance.

Coyote,  I REALLY like the way that is coming together, can't wait to see the finished scene.

Well here is what I have been doing. I have a good deal of scenery done on the middle peninsula of the layout done. Still need to get the stockpen, windmill and tank done, they'll be going where the cows are right now.

Still a lot to do on it... I know it's pretty amateurish looking but *shrugs* at least I got it started. Wink [;)]

Yeah, I'd like to get a better look at that backdrop when it is vertical!

Okay, we seem to be getting them in in dribs and drabs, so I'll try to get some momentum going again.

Dave, sorry Bud, but I have to give equal time to my "other" railroad.  I hope NYC fans will approve. Big Smile [:D]

...or, maybe you'd like this one better?

...or, how about this one taken through the mine buildings looking down the switchback toward the same meeting?

I have been working on some backdrop scenery on the club layout... I think I made some foreground trees a little too big! Hopefully with modeled trees near the backdrop it will work... I am using water-base acrylic paint from Micheals, and one 2" foam brush (for the fir trees), and  1" bristle brushes for everything else. The storm clouds are a result  of applying gray first, then highlighting with white, and then with a clean, sopping wet brush, I swirled the colors together.

Glad that the WFP is not down for the weekend. Again, really good work and pictures everyone. This is always like visiting everyone's layout if only for a few moments every weekend.

mtrails ... 1 foam and 1 bristle brush ?  You are the artist Thumbs Up [tup]

This is one aspect of the hobby where there is no one magic way.  There are no "tools" like those to ensure track is straight or a curve is just the right radius or an elevation is correct - just a foam and bristle brush. It is all in the eye & mind of the beholder.

I prefer backdrops that don't pull the eye towards them, more subdued. Your rendition mtrails accomplishes that IMHO.  I like it a lot.

I had reviewed Chap 2 and 9 of the Dream-Plan-Build Vol 1 series on painting backdrops so I am trying their stippling method.

I'm okay with the small panel on the left but after 3 attempts on the larger one to the right, I am still not happy - not enough depth and some clouds stand out too much - the two with the X above them need to come out.  There is also the horizon to paint in - with pine trees.

So, today, it's back to the "painting board".  These two panels need to be removeable, so, another challenge will be to secure them well enough so that the seams pull together - maybe velcro to the supports.

Regards,

Tom

Great fun to watch these photos go by, as always.  Tomkat, I really like the ground views of those scenes.   Looks like you're really there.

I did wiring yesterday.  Not too exciting, but in the end I did end up with interior lights in a couple of buildings.  This one is a Model Power kit, which came with all the interior details except the figure testing the bed.
