You can purchase any decoder with the 8-pin NMRA plug, and it will plug right in.   decoders mix 'n match with any dcc system. Sorry I don't have any "reccommended" decoders for it, but NCE & Digitrax make very nice decoders, so I would start looking there if I were you.

sound decoders come in two flavors (to my knowledge) - sound only and sound & motor & lights (there might be sound & motor only as well...).

Decoader questions
Posted by V&T Fan on Thursday, April 19, 2007 11:16 AM

Having returned to the hobby after a 45+year absence I have some DCC questions.

What is anyone's answer to what decoader to use in a Bachmann Spectrum 4-6-0? It has an 8 pin socket and is listed as DCC ready. I am using am MRC Prodigy Advanced system.

Is a sound decoader a seperate decoader that is piggybacked on a regular decoader or do some decoaders come with sound built in?

Thanks in advanced.
