Price hike MR?

i have MR miscellaneous copies for the years 1934-1965. been subscribing since then, even bought some bound volumes. and the price of MR has gone up steadily, my income has gone up steadily, the cost of everything has gone up steadily. i see MR as a bargain for the information it has delivered over the years, and the ability to go back and research old articles is priceless, at least for me. i'm not wild about every article in every issue, but the stuff i want and use is there often enough. the other stuff is for guys that model a different era than i do. i see Model Railroader as THE SOURCE for the hobby. a bargain at any price.

If you subscribe to a 3 year (or more*) subscription, you will not be as affected by price increases since you will be paying a flat rate for all issues reguardless of what the individual copy price is. And often MR has larger discounts if you take a multi-year subscription.

* Multiple two or three year subscriptions. For example, two 3-year subscriptions is a 6-year subscription if you ask for your subscription to be extended.

Before you compare the 15 cents that issue #1 cost to what they charge now, next time you see a railroad diner menu from 1934 check out what kind of dinner you could get for 15 cents! It is comparatively cheap today actually.

Please note that the $5.95 single copy price for the January issue of Model Railroader is for this single issue only. This special anniversary issue was priced higher due to the addition of extra editorial pages and foldouts.

Effective with the February 2004 issue, the price will return to $4.95.

I hope this clears up any confusion.

Good eye! Been a subscriber for so long I don't pay much attention to the cover price. I'm afraid that in this case what goes up, never comes down. Once the type is set, it stays. I guess I got lucky, I just renewed....... or maybe I'm just psycic. Still the best magazine on the subject.

The going rate for 1934 and 1935 issues on the used market is $20.00 per issue! (And some of them are only 12 pages!) So guys, save those issues for six or seven decades; they are a gilt-edged blue chip investment!

I've got a few 1961 issues I've been looking at this week and they're 50 cents each.

Ken Ducat, "70-year subscriber" article in Jan '04 MR Railway Post Office column stated that in 1933 he bought back issues of MR for 15¢ each.

I haven't received the January '04 issue either. I renewed in September, but my previous subscription (before renewal) ran thru February '04. I also subscribe to Trains. I usually receive both magazines at about the same time each month. So far I don't have either one. I'm hoping I receive them sometime this week.
