MAR USA???
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, June 10, 2001 10:48 PM
Hi All
I am new to this forum and to model Railroading.
My family and I just came back from my Inlaws Cottage. At the old (1950's) cottage is an old electric Steam engine left buy the original owner. It has to be at least 30 years old and the only marks on it are MAR USA! No model numbers, or any other markings. The Engine # is 666!
I think it is an "s" scale model?

If any one has info. on this Engine i would love to hear from you.

Thankyou

Mark D.

Hello Mark,

The brand name of your engine is avtually "Marx." If you look at the logo you'll see a big "X" behind the letters "MAR." That may not have been the greatest logotype ever designed, but that's what they meant it to say.

Marx trains were made to run on O gauge track, but as toy trains they were made undersize to take sharp "O-27" curves, so that's why they look more like S scale.

Go to our "Classic Toy Trains" Magazine home page for more information on Marx trains. There are also references in the Kalmbach Books line.

Good luck,

Hi Mark,

Andy is right, you have a Marx "O" gauge engine. The 666 was a die-cast engine, and sometimes had a working smoke unit.
