You can try to read up on some info from these threads.  They seem pretty helpful.

weathering question
Posted by alcofanschdy on Saturday, March 24, 2007 11:56 AM

I just bought an AM Models loading platform. Its plastic wood and is brown colored.  What would be the best way to weather this so it would look more real? I thought maybe black and/or gray chalk might improve it.  Would anyone please offer any other ideas?  Thanks in advance.
