MR.com HTML e-mail newsletter format
Posted by Bergie on Wednesday, November 26, 2003 1:19 PM
What do you think of the new MR.com HTML e-mail newsletter format?

(It's being delivered late in the evening of November 26, 2003.)

Please note: You will only receive the graphically-enhanced HTML newsletter version if the preferences on your computer are set to accept HTML e-mails. Otherwise, you will continue to receive out text version.

When I posted this thread I knew someone would make a crack about that. I needed to create it prior to the e-mail going out so the e-mail would have something to link to. I know, the cart before the horse, the chicken and the egg... but some things can't be avoided. I hope you guys like it. [8D]

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Dear Bergie or any addministrator guy,
I got a new e-mail address and updated my profile but I haven't been getting any newsletters that I checked off (i.e. railroading, scale model trains). Is there a problem? Help!

Your new format is more enjoyable to read, even though it is the same as before but it is organize better and easier to find topics.

Hello!

Looking at the overwhelming support for the new format, now I seem to understand why computer viruses are so successful in spreading.

My primary mailer is "text-only," so the attached HTML section is an eyesore.

I wi***hat MR could provide some option to send out "text-only" messages. Since many sites offer such service, it should not be too difficult.

Regards,

Awesome....now if you could only post better quality video clips it would really make a great addition to the web page.

It looks ok, but I prefer text emails, and am aware some mail programs don't tolerate HTML messages well.

Hi satochan,

We actually do deliver a text version of the e-mail newsletter in addition to the HTML format. The e-mail that's delivered to the end user is based on the preferences set up on the user's computer.

Hi Minuteman,

I'm going to poll our users about their Internet connections soon in an attempt to learn more about the majority of our user's connections. Right now we deliver small video clips because we've been concerned about the overall file weight of our videos. As broadband continues to become more affordable and more commonly-used, we might need to change our way of thinking. There's nothing stopping us from providing a larger window size... just concern about the dial-up user.

We'll look into that soon.

Take care,
Erik

I wonder if Yahoo is blocking our e-mails to you. We'll look into that. Since we send so many e-mails, some ISPs thinking we're spamming and block our e-mails. We had that problem with AOL a few months back. We had to contact them and confirm our e-mails are opted-in to at the users request. We'll check Yahoo.

Great new format. I can see how it could lead to having ads attached to it. I hope that does not happen, because if it does the content will be lost.

The new format looks great. The load times when you go to another link is still much too slow.
