The original Athearn Pacific was modeled after a Boston & Maine Pacific built in the 1930's. It was B&M's most modern passenger locomotive. It was entremely handsome with its "Boston and Maine" spelled out in multicolored script on the tender. The locomotive was in the Kalmbach book "Steam's Finest Hour".

Does anyone have an expertise, or at least some knowledge, of the older Athearn steam locomotives? I have a 4-6-2 Pacific, the one that's on the older Athearn box cover (pre-Genesis series) and an 0-6-0 switcher that I think an Athearn model (the coupler cover plates are the typical Athearn metal design). The Pacific does not wear an original paint job, but the 0-6-0 does (PRR #1272). I'm interested in repainting the Pacific to reflect its prototype. If anyone knows about these locomotives or can refer me to someone who does, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks
