OK Santa Fe and Amtrak my 2 favorites for standard gauge.

The old original Santa Fe carts were mostly green.  The modern carts Amtrak uses are often blue, or sometimes orange.  The "modern" carts that I'm referring to have rubber wheels.  A lot of these "modern" carts are Santa Fe relics.

The old metal wheel carts (like covered wagons) are still used but it's getting rarer, at least at the Santa Fe/Amtrak stations I use.  But if you can, refer to photos of a specific station you want to represent.

The mini tractor (golf cart) used to pull the carts are typically yellow.  Orange is popular too, but along the former Santa Fe transcon they are usually yellow.

What era is your layout?  This has a lot to do with the type and color of baggage cart.

But if you would like to represent current Amtrak on former Santa Fe lines, a rubber wheel blue cart with a yellow tractor is a good fit.  These things are badly weathered, so don't forget to grunge them up.

I guess what I was really looking for was generic type cart that would work for all eras, but apparently there's no such thing... I don't know why I didn't realize that. Anyway, I think I'll just go with the Santa Fe green. Besides, my favorite eras to model are from the 1920s to the mid 1950s. Thanks for you help Southwest Chief.

Baggage cart question...
Posted by Tracklayer on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 6:51 PM

Hi all. I'm going to attempt to build an N scale baggage cart from scratch tomorrow, and though I have some really good photos to use as guides, they're all in black and white, so I'm not really sure what the color should be. It will be used for everything from Santa Fe to Amtrak. Anyone out there have any suggestions ?.

Thanks in advance.
