Most of the steel parts varied in color - I guess they used whatever color they had on hand (except pink)Big Smile [:D].

The CNW turntable in North Green Bay had dark grey/black girders, light grey arch, and red railings.

The CNW turntable in Proviso had dark grey/black girders and arch, while the railings looked to be pale blue or light grey.

Hope this helps.

whatever was the cheapest i geuss just somthing to keep the rain off the metal so it dident rust railroads are all about cheapness i can tell you for sure it was not red red is the most exspencive paint you can buy becuse of the pigment, so the railroads would not buy gallons and gallons of paint just to paint a turn table, they just spent up wards of 125,000.00 for the thing.

What colour are turntable girders usually painted?

More specifically... what colour did the CNW use?

BUt I'm intrigued whether they were predominantly black, grey, red oxide or whatever?

Did the big roads do all the same or did it vary?

How common was sign writing the company name or a safety slogan?

Did any get striped?

As steam declined and after was the paintwork kept up or let slide?

Just a few things that occured to me?

TIA Tongue [:P]
