Dash8-40CMs
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, November 10, 2003 10:22 PM
Well...i am greatly looking foreward to Kaslo Shops resin Dash 8-40CM kits...i have had several conversations with John the owner of Kaslo and i am assued that these kits will be as superb as their SD50 and SD60F kits...and just as easy to work with. Now these will be painted and detailed for my Proto-Freelance RR...but i do have a question for those of you "in the know" about GE stuff. I am what i personally think a sorta knowledegable person on CN and BC Rail locomotive practices but beacouse of the nature of the CMs i have never really had a chance to get "up close and personal" with one to get a good look at some of the finer points on them. What i want to know is this. The BC Rail units have a smooth Draper Taper on both sides...but the CN units have this weird looking box in the Taper area behing the firemans side. What is the purpose of this box? What is housed in it? and is it strictly a CN thing. (my P-F RR mostly follows BC Rail practices)...any help would be much appriciated...
