Not mentioned above is the "ugly duckling"
a G E AMD103 Genesis P40 and P42. Granted
they are just a shell over a Dash 8, but I like 'em.

You Should give more choices. SD60, SD60M, SD70, SD70M, SD75, SD80, SD90, then GE models not everyone is a EMD fan, although I am My fav is the SD60M, come to think about it I don't think you should give a Mac option, it really is about preformance and usage on the road.

Mine is the SD40-2. But some people may not consider it a modern locomotive.

Favorite of all time is the oh so beautiful EMD E8, but for moderns I'd have to go for the new would have to be the neo-streamline F-59PHIs or Long Island's new locos

Well for those of you who have seen pics of the SD70ACe....gawd are they ugly looking. But i voted for Other...as there was no mention of the C44-9WL (the canadian Dash9 with the 4 window cab) or the Dash8-40CM (the canadian version of the dash8 with the widebody and the Draper Taper). And there was no mention of the Bombardier HR616 (which i think would just skirt the modern era since they were built in 1982 and 1983.

My favorites are the 4 axle locos of both GE and GMLG.I wish somebody would get off their butt and start producing the GE U-boats from the U18B right up to the U36Bs.

Course a GP38-2 would be well recieved too.A new GP50 also would be nice.

I don't know how modern your definition of modern is, but I like the SD40-2.
I'll take mine in Conrail blue.
I took a liking to the SD40-2 after seeing (and hearing) these things pull and shove trains up the West Slope in Pennsylvania.
Standing next to the Conrail (now NS, ex PRR) main, the ground shaking, an almost deafening, thundering noise (music to a railfan!) in the air with the engines in run 8 giving all they've got to get a heavy train up the hill.....yep, I vote for the SD40-2.

Those SD units that you listed are all pretty much the same to me. I can tell you that my favorite modern diesel is any one of those that are listed with UP's Building America paint scheme. I think that that's one of the best paint schemes of all time. Even though I model UP during WWII, I'd like to buy a model of one of them and just put it on display in a glass case.
huh?

None listed. Last great engine was the SD40-2. Advantage of model railroading, stopping time. And mine stops at 1980.
