challenger3802 ---- thanks millions for that link ! I've been wanting to add some sound modules and speaker systems to my die cast cars and cabooses instead of buying plastic and gutting them. Oh well here goes the bank card again ! LOL  They have a huge variety too and my grandchildren love the sound cars !

Thanks for the photo and information. I bought a dozen of these kits [MDC I think] but forgopt where I stored them. I was curious if they had a prototype basis, or were like the Oscar and Piker, just a novelty. The shorter cars appeal to me. Best Holiday Wishes

These may be not tankers but they are still certainly Beer Cars.  Interesting liveries none the less.

I have a Walthers "Beer can" car that I bought about 8 years ago in a LHS that was going out of business - & the box had loads of dust on it!  The reason I bought it was that it lettered BASF (the big chemical/drug co) and my youngest son worked there in the chemical division.  Many of their chemicals are very pricey and are not needed in large quantities (they usually ship full size cars of chemicals).  Mine is lettered new 9-67.

This seems odd. These cars, when empty, would weigh less than loaded cars. They probably weighed no more than most other loaded cars when loaded, perhaps less. I would think that the small quantity of cargo that they could haul is what eliminated them. Also, I have seen, on rare occasions, tankcars just over 30' long just a few years ago.

Walthers released a kit quite a few years ago to use real beercans to make tank cars, are these what you are refering to?  If you are refering to the short tank cars, I've seen them on the Iowa Interstate in Council Bluffs, IA hauling corn syrup (and lettered for something along that line too).

Walthers and MDC/Roundhouse have both offered 30' tankcars in HO scale. The Walthers cars have a slightly larger diameter. Nighter have been manufactured in several years. Walthers re-released all of their tankcars as RTR a year or two ago, however, the 30' cars are the one they did not re-released. Athearn may bring back the former MDC car as a Blue Box kit (it has not prototype, although it does look somewhat similar to a GATC design from probably the early 1960s).

Are you looking for N Scale from Atlas Model RR or HO Scale from some other company?

Are these models still available? I always liked the looks of the shorter cars--so these appeal to me. I cannot recall ever seeing one on the rails--were they rare?
