I am not sure of the plan specifics but I have built a few layouts with open grid framework and it is not nearly as flexible as the L-girder. You can put risers almost anywhere with L-girder.

N scale Layout Help!!
Posted by jaretos on Friday, December 15, 2006 8:56 PM

I am in the process of determining the best way to build the Janesville Wisc., 1994 N scale layout in the PDF "Mid-sized Layouts, Vol.II" and need some help.  If anyone has viewed this PDF I have some questions.  The first would be what is recommended benchwork to go with on an along the walls, around the room layout?  I know wall brackets of course, but do I go w/ L girder or use a variation based on the plan?  Also, I have a general question about the interchange track.  It appears from the drawings there is a 4.1% grade.  Does this prevent me from leaving cars on the interchange?  It seems this grade even for N scale is too steep.  I hope I am not rambiling, just looking for answers.  I tried to e-mail Model Railroader, but got no response from them on how to contact the author.  Thanks a bunch!
