suprised me to find Black Flag and the Dead Kennedys on a MR forum !
along with The Cramps they are among my favorites!

we have the NPR thing overhere too, about 5 different ones, from talk-radio to a kind of alternative / college-radio style programming.

buts thats only because I really get alot of flak when I play Black Flag!
Ever seen Henry Rollins live? COOL!! I really dig his spoken word work too!![}:)]

I'm actually a Dead Kennedy's fan more so than Black Flag, seen Jello at a spoken word tour, wish he'd do more, i never got to see BF on stage before they broke up though, and i just couldnt get into The Rollins Band as much, not the same, know what I mean? Still like him though. My biggest regret is that I never got to see my all time favorite band of that era, the Talking Heads, live, met David Byrne once at a museum, really cool guy.

To lump together Metal & alternative then to seperate Country & Western to me has problems. Slayer, Pantera & Iron Maiden sound a lot different then STP, Soundgarden, & Nirvana. Just like country sounds different then western I guess. Just Make it Rock & turn it up

What? No one else voted for opera? [:O] Its not all shrill voices and foreign languages, you know.

On the flip side, I love 80's rock and roll, too. [8D] I burned out on country when I was a radio station DJ for a country music station. [xx(]

I love classic rock. I'm a big Beatles fan as well as Clapton (GOD), The Stones, Led Zep, etc.

I also listen ot NPR. Every morning I have to get the news from Bob Edwards/Carl Kasell. I also enjoy Wait, Wait Don't tell me, Car Talk and of course A Prairie Home Companion.

50's rock, classical, movie themes, easy listening. Favorite big band, Glen Miller. And we can't leave out the Cliedus Magard, Willie Nilly, Little Dirt Bag Band, only the most famous Classical arts band of all time. Maybe you've all heard of their greatest hit entitled, "Dirt Bag Eyes or What Time Did You Go Home Last Night"[:D]

It is the same group. It’s even the same name - George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic.

They are also known as Wild Cherry, KC and the Sunshine Band, and, if I am not mistaken, Hot Chocolate (not completely sure on this one).

Never thought I'd ever say this, but I can't listen to metal while I'm workin cuz I'll end up choppin something short. Can't listen to the classics cuz I start rememberin hearing those songs while I was a kid playin with my Lionel set (which I still have) and then I don't get anything done. What works best for me is listening to the likes of Rush, Satriani, Rippingtons, Larry Carlton, Mastedon, and newer Peter Frampton.

heck ya. they were awesome until everyone started dying. wait thats the Allman Brothers. another good band.

how could i forget Tom Petty. he's another great musician.

my tastes are so messed up. for a teenager i listen to a lot of stuff. i get crap for listening to older rock and country because its either you listen to heavy metal or you listen to rap at my school. i don't listen to rap much but heavy metal i can stand for awhile.

If it isn't Boy George, George Micheal or Micheal Jackson, I'll listen to it.

I like a lot of different kinds of music; metal, classic rock, grunge, indie rock, some alternative and some hip hop. Too many labels nowadays.

My favorite artist is Bruce Springsteen--my favorite album is "Darkness On The Edge Of Town"--wore out the vinyl, 2 cassettes but the CD is still going strong. Really helped me living in foster homes!

Speaking of mood, what a coincidence that I am currently listening to Glenn Miller's In the Mood! Up next is Chattanooga Choo Choo. Which leads me to ask:

HOW COULD YOU FORGET SWING?!

My first choice is classical/opera (by the way, when was the last time any of you listened to La Traviata?) Next to that is swing, such as I am currently listening to, although I'm probably going to change it out soon because the CD has repeated itself four times now! On occasion, I have been reported to listen to the Beach Boys, but it's mostly Classical and Swing. I happen to be a violinist (not proffessionally) as well as a model railroader, and as such know quite a bit about Classical music (anybody want to know the difference between Major and Minor???). There are some composers I do not like, particularly Stravinsky and Prokofiev, but that's just my opinion and some Classical music bigwig is probably going to get on my case because of it. Other than that, I don't really like much else, unless it has trains in it....

See you around the forums,
Daniel

Good to see this topic back--listened to a Waylon Jennings cd and followed it up with Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise. Tomorrow I've got The Archangels and some Tom Petty lined up when I shake a couple of Roundhouse tank cars together.
