Edit: doh, Tsunami. Set CV8 = 8 to reset, I believe. Forget the magic wand stuff. But the rest applies, except for the verbal readback. Should get you going.

If CV29 reads back as a value of 38 and it's not operating on the 4-digit address you selected, either hte decoder is defective or you used advanced consisting at some point and there's an advanced consist address in CV19 or the loco is addres on another throttle.  Your best bet is to reset the decoder, either with the jumper or magic wand depending on which version QSI decoder it is, and try again. The automatic programmign of CV29 will ALWAYS fail because the QSI firmware has a huge delay after the address CVs get programmed when it will speak the value if the verbal response is on. If you immediately answer Y to the Digitrax prompt to set the 4-digit address, the decoder will never see it. If you wait, the prompt eventually times out and the CV29 value is never even sent. The best way to program the QSI decoders is to set CV17 and CV18 manually (the full QSI manual has the calculation, plus its in may place. I now I've seen an online one where you put in the 4-digit address you want and it tells you what to program for CV17 and CV18. After this, then set CV29 to 38.

I tried that. The super chief's instructions says that it will do that automtically, but I also tried to do it manually. Still it will not allow the 4 digit address. I have read back the cv value of # 29 and it says it is at 038. I have also reset the decoder durring this process, just in case I had messed something up unintentionally. Still no progress.

Tsunami programming issues
Posted by scole100 on Friday, November 3, 2006 10:14 PM
I have a Sountraxx Tsunami installed in a Bachman 2-8-0. It works great, but I can not get the loco address set. I have a Digitrax super chief and the programming booster from Tony's Train Exchange. I can change it to any 2 digit address, but it will not change to any 4 digit address.
I have tried everything I can think of. I even broke down and READ THE DIRECTIONS, which is something I am usually very reluctant to do. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
