Even worse, neither Athearn nor MDC will let you buy their steam engines without sound, which I think is a pretty dumb move. Because of that, I will never buy their steam engines (I don't want sound, and I'm not going to pay for sound only so I can take it out and not use it).

I understand the sound in the 4-4-0 is really awful and I'm sure it will be the same for their 2-6-0. From the various sound systems I've heard so far the Tsunami is the only one worth listening to. Most of the systems have terrible exhaust sounds.

Personally........I think we need more HO F-units to go with the Pig Boys and K4s's!

There is an MDC advertisement for, and photo of, the 4-4-0 on page 7 of the December 2006 issue of Model Railroader.

Unfortunately, the model has two things going against it as far as I'm concerned:  An MRC sound decoder, and traction tires.  Athearn has lost me as a customer as long as they use the MRC decoders.

I have several steam engines with traction tires, and other club members have both steam and diesel HO models with traction tires, and they have all dry rotted or stretched and fallen off.  Traction tires are bad news in a dry climate like Arizona.

If the 2-6-0 is going to be similar I'll pass on it, too.

Or one more K4.  Oh, I'm sorry, MTH already did that.

Has any one seen or purchased the MTH K4??

MDC / roundhouse has announced a 2-6-0 based on their old kit .

http://www.roundhousetrains.com/Search/Default.aspx?SearchTerm=2-6-0&CatID=THLS

comes with DCC and sound , should be available around may 2007
i'm assuming it will be the same detail and quality as their 4-4-0

looks like us folks modelling pre 1930 are getting some of our wishes . now who's taking bets on when bachmann announces a spectrum 2-6-0 ?  Smile [:)]
