John Tews Timber River Railway
Posted by don_csx on Thursday, October 12, 2006 2:14 AM

What ever happened to John Tews and his Timber River Railway? I remember seeing it on and old Tracks Ahead show and in the November 1992 Model Railroader. This was the first layout that really inspired me on my layout?

Did'nt they have a small interview with him and a few modelers with him on model trains, worlds greatest hobby dvd ? The dvd should only be one or two years old by now. but the dvd did show his Timber River Railway which was very impressive. That is the only interview I've witnessed John Tews in.

John Tews MMR has retired from being the managing director at Milwaukee's Trainfest.  He indicated that he wanted to use the newly available free time to get back to the layout.  I think I saw some models by John at some of the recent WISE Division meet contests but if memory serves they were scratchbuilt On30 cars.

That is correct.  The HO ga. Timber River Railway featured on Tracks Ahead and as the cover story - Model Railroader - November, 1992 - is still at my home.  The TRR North at my lake home is an O scale combination 3 rail and On30. Lionel/MTH for the gran kids and On30 for operations.
