Question regarding Hornby OO Live Steam
Posted by statistician on Sunday, October 8, 2006 10:18 AM

Hi,

I'm an O gauge Lionel collector that's been out of HO for quite some time and was hoping to get some advice. I recently visited the Hornby website and was amazed at the OO gauge live steam engines and just had to buy one. I purchased the Dwight D. Eisenhower 4-6-2 streamliner and a set of 4 coaches from the UK.

My question: has anyone experienced major problems with these? I've heard that they run a bit toy-like with some jerkiness. This will not bother me. But will the heat eventually damage or fade the painted finish? Are these prone to mechanical failure that may require a trip back to the factory?

This is still a beautiful set in my opinion, but I'm trying to figure out whether it's better left as a shelf piece. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
