I remember trains always doing the 1027 thing. Hell my wife and I have yet to do a true Honeymoon (being busy and all) but I would have taken along a few copies of trains or mr ( shes the one that subscribed for me so I could have them) True love and all you know.

BTW she loves me so much she got me classic trains about 2 or 3 years ago, my subscription runs out in 2011!! No you cant have her! I have her trained ( bad pun) she goes out to a  local steam museum with me ( I run she complains about cinders) and she thinks its cute when I drool over a triple headed steam operation. Hey she even has a room of our house dedicated to firefighting and trains.Plus shes cute ;)

Yes we are on time but this is yesterdays train

Well, I guess its a good thing that I was not an English Major in College!

I am surprised how few people on here recognized the address....mabe I know it beacause all I had (at one point) was old isssues of trains & MR.

As far as taking Amtrak, I would have had to drive for a longer period of time to get to the train than it took for the whole plane ride from the US to Jamaica.

As they say, "No Problem Mon!"

getting room 1027 , when that's the address of kalmbach isn't ironic , it's a coincidence
not the same thing

from dictionary.com
Usage Note: The words ironic, irony, and ironically are sometimes used of events and circumstances that might better be described as simply “coincidental” or “improbable,” in that they suggest no particular lessons about human vanity or folly. Thus 78 percent of the Usage Panel rejects the use of ironically in the sentence In 1969 Susie moved from Ithaca to California where she met her husband-to-be, who, ironically, also came from upstate New York. Some Panelists noted that this particular usage might be acceptable if Susie had in fact moved to California in order to find a husband, in which case the story could be taken as exemplifying the folly of supposing that we can know what fate has in store for us. By contrast, 73 percent accepted the sentence Ironically, even as the government was fulminating against American policy, American jeans and videocassettes were the hottest items in the stalls of the market, where the incongruity can be seen as an example of human inconsistency.

it's a pretty cool coincidence though Smile [:)]

I don't think Amtrak goes that far either.  Greyhound does though... I think.  I know they go to Kentuckasippi, so you know they go to Jamaica.

Kalmbach's original address having 1027 as it's numeric portion, they used to run photographs of Engines and other equipment numbered 1027.  Mainly this was done in Trains, but also appeared in MR.  When they moved into their new location in the late 1980's they were able to choose one of the alternate addresses available to them:  21027 Crossroads Circle in Waukesha.

Note: 1027 was the MoP roster number of the Kansas, Oklahoma & Gulf's lone NW2 after the KO&G was bought out by the T&P - MoP in 1964.

I don't know how a train gets to Key West anymore since the railroad was destroyed in 1936.

Older MRR subscribers would recognize it - KalPubCo's Milwaukee address:

1027 N. 7th Street

They bought the building, paid off the mortgage, then moved out.

Chuck

Okay, so older subscribers would recognize the address...I've subscribed since 1992 and didn't make the connection. Ironic? No. Obscure, yes.

Even if that is the case, I'm with Don Z. I still don't understand what would be ironic about that.
