So Msowsun, my BB's are the old 70's with no board. Making it simple yank the dioeds and wire it to the trucks. I know there will be more to it with wiring but I am on the right track?

The circuit board is just a convienient way to wire the motor, lights, DCC, or whatever to the track voltage.
The BL-2 does not have a circuit board. It has a little bundle of 6 diodes that make a 1.5v directional constant lighting circuit.
It works just like this one..... http://mrollins.com/constant.html
Before the BL 2 lover's jump up in arms it not under the knife, in fact I have I am still watting on it. All so if you look at the first posting about the BL's you could have this one.
But, what I was thinking was to rob the 5 skew motor and use it in a BB Athearn. I am not ready for DCC yet. Not worried about drive shaft sizes yet , that will come if I part it out and still may not.
So what is the question? Does the motor have to have a circute board to run or is it just for the lights?
