Baghdad Modelers

I am a soldier in Iraq from the Grand Junction, CO area seeking to
start the first train club in Baghdad. Some of us have come up with a
way to help the Iraqi's step out of their thirty year time
warp. Introduce them to a 'local' model railroad club. It is also going
to give soldiers in camp the opportunity to do something other than watch
DVD's. My goal is to provide as many soldiers as possible on Camp Slayer
with the opportunity to come to know our hobby.
At this time I am seeking donations from those willing to support our
soldiers with some of the following items. Any support that can be
offered would be greatly appreciated. We are seeking N, HO, and O pieces.
Spares and broken stock are especially help full as we are focused
on getting others to share with us there hand me downs. We are looking
for detailing parts, pieces damaged in production, or during shipping,
and spare parts for kit bashing and repairs. One problem here in Iraq is the lack of ability to come up with decent tools in the local markets. Hammers are a 1" piece of re-bar about 5" long welded to 1/2" piece of re-bar 10 "
long. I am serious this is what we find when we walk through the marble
palaces. (We plan on using a room with a marble floor to set up our
trains in!) So needle nose pliers, wire crimpers, track screws, and real
American wood handled hammers are always appreciated. We have been trying to get hold of non- flamable paints, saws, small hand tools- they are in very short supply here.
At home I operate in both HO and O. We are asking for parts from all three gauges, thinking we will build from whichever turns out to be the most complete. We have been given susfficient space to build a alyout in each scale. Also we would appreciate any train literature that can be provided;
old or new catalogues, back issues of magazines, railroadania related books.
Please pass this on to any of your club members. We are extremely
grate full for any scrap pieces we are given. Your table scraps will be
our pike! (pun intended)
