Matthew,
Try the New Haven Railroad Historical & Technical Association's "NH Forum" at www.nhrhta.org
The guys over there will try to answer any NH questions if they know the answers. I can tell you that if there were any loads going out by rail, the NH would, of course, tried to use their own cars (as that would earn them the most money). As to loads in and what kinds of cars? Boxcars I'd imagine, mostly from the South (just a guess).
If worse comes to worse, you can try the New Haven archives and company records at UCONN in Storrs, CT.
If you can find a specfic line, I can help with some freight schedules and the like as I have a couple Freight Symbol Books of the era. But without knowing where the mills were specifically, I'm afraid I can't help much. The NH did go, of course, to Lowell, MA, but I'm not terribly familiar with that end of the Northern Old Colony.
For locos used, that's a bit easier to answer, but again one would need the location of the mills in question.

Hello,
are there any websites or info on 1940's and 1950's New England Textile Mills served by the New Haven Railroad. Info on operations and rolling stock used and materials transported to Mill. Thanks in advance for answers.
