I recall this set as coming out in the mid 1980s but I am no collector. It might be very nice, the Royal Scot was a beautiful train whose steam locomotive visited the United States for a tour.

I guess I am more interested in how old the set might be than how much it might be worth.

Thanks

In 50 or 100 years it may have some value.

Train Set Manufacture Date & Value
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, September 2, 2003 11:37 AM
This past Labor Day Weekend, I was given an HO Scale Train Set by someone who found it in her Basement. It was purchased for her husband before he got sick and couldn't use it. [:(]

It is still in the original box with Shrink wrap intact. It is a Bachmann Classic Collector Series "The Royal Scot" Serialized Train Set. Somewhere on the box it says that all components of the set contain the same serial number.

There is a Steam Locomotive, and Tender with the number 41600 on it. There are 3 Coach Cars, and a Royal coach car. All are Blue with Gold Stripes, the Royal Coach Car has a light Gold Stripe with some royal looking emblemes and the words Royal Coach on it.

The Box has a Item # 481 and what looks like a Part Number of 49-95202 on it. The Set was sold thru the Sears Outlet and still has the price tag on it.

No where on the box or any of the included papers does it list a date of manufacture or sale although the box looks like it could be serveral years old.

I am just starting back in Model Railroading with an N Scale Layout after 20 years out of it (Married with children, Now the kids have moved out and I am ready to go.) I was thinking of setting up an Oval for Nieces & nephews (and Grandkids [;)] when they come along) but if this set has any value I don't want to risk it getting damaged.

Again it is still in the original box with all the shrink wrap intact.

Thanks for your help [:D]
